Coding with Ozobots

Coding robots are helping to make Clarkstown CSD more future-ready, as students use Ozobots to practice computational thinking! Our team of four enrichment teachers regularly collaborate with classroom teachers to weave technology into their lessons and classrooms — a key part of the district’s “Enrichment for All” initiative. During one of her latest stops, Christie Trento worked with fifth graders in Steve Rozycki's Birchwood School class to program Ozobots using color codes.

Students created interactive maps and programmed the Ozobots so they followed lines and responded to color codes drawn on paper. The fifth graders were instructed to add obstacles to their maps as a way to strengthen their computational thinking — a logic and problem-solving process where students identify solutions and process information like a computer would — to develop skills that are not only fundamental for programming but also important for all subject areas.
